Campus Recruiting Guide

Welcome! We appreciate your interest in recruiting and hiring Georgia State University students and graduates. Our staff is available for consultation on any recruiting or hiring issue.

Georgia State University students graduate in May, August and December. Job search and career services are provided for undergraduate and graduate students. Separate career offices are maintained for students in Robinson College of Business and the College of Law. Campus interviewing for BBA and MBA are coordinated by the Career Advancement Center (404-413-7157).

The most successful recruiting experiences occur when an employer creates a presence on campus that fosters the development of relationships with students, faculty, and career services staff. Highly effective employers place their emphasis on the long-term view and building relationships, rather than focusing on recruiting transactions. It is our goal, as well, to develop and maintain strong relationships with employers, and we value the opportunity to assist you with your hiring needs.

There are many opportunities for you to establish a strong presence on our campus. We use Handshake, a modern campus recruiting system, which allows for requesting interviews, information sessions and other events 24/7.

How to Arrange a Campus Recruiting Visit
For both new and returning employers, we offer you a choice between open or prescreening student sign-up options. Prescreening allows you an advance review of student resumes that have indicated an interest in your position(s) and preselection of students for your campus interview.
Open sign-up means that students who meet your qualifications sign-up on a first-come, first-served basis.
Upon confirmation of your recruiting visit, you will be given access to Handshake which will allow you to input specific, detailed company information and specific job descriptions. You may also view résumés of applicants on your computer or bundle résumés and print them out. Your invitations to interview are put directly into the system and you may communicate directly with students via email. Students sign up for specific times and you may watch the progress of your sign-ups online.
Recruiting Schedule
Most campus interviews are 30 minutes, although you may request other lengths of time. The typical schedule begins at 8:30 a.m., with breaks from 10-10:15 a.m., 11:45 a.m.-1:15 p.m. and 2:45-3 p.m. and concludes at 4:30 p.m., thus allowing you to interview 12 students per schedule. Additional breaks may be scheduled at your request.

The University Career Services (UCS) office is located on the 2nd floor of the University Center at 66 Courtland Street in downtown Atlanta. We encourage you to reserve recruiting dates as soon as possible so that we can accommodate you with the date requested.

Publicity and Information Sessions
We will post information about your visit on Handshake and on our website. Longer lead times increase the exposure of your opportunity to students, so early scheduling is advised. You may also place an ad in the student newspaper, The Signal, 404-413-1620, to publicize your information session or campus visit.

If you wish to schedule an employer information session prior to your visit, we will coordinate it at the time we schedule your recruiting visit. If you want to serve food, you must make your own reservations with the University Catering service, 404-413-9601.

NACE Principles
Employers recruiting at Georgia State University are expected to adhere to the Principles of Recruiting and Employment promulgated by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE). Upon request, we will be glad to provide you with a copy of the Principles for Professional Conduct for Career Services & Employment Professionals.
Third Parties/Contract Recruiters
Third parties may list openings within the organization. They may participate in career fairs if client names are identified. Contract recruiters may recruit on-campus, provided they identify to University Career Services (UCS) and the students the name of the employer(s) represented. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and Testing
Only Equal Opportunity employers may use UCS facilities, if space is available. The Equal Opportunity Commission must validate tests administered on campus. Company representatives must conduct their own testing.

Use of Facilities
Interview and presentation facilities arranged by UCS are to be used solely to speak with students from Georgia State University who are eligible for service from UCS. To be eligible, a student must be registered with UCS via Handshake. Exceptions to this policy must be requested to the Director of UCS in advance. Georgia State University has the right to request names of candidates interviewed on campus in instances where an organization establishes its own schedule.
