Résumés & Cover Letters

Your résumé summarizes your personal and professional preparation for the position to which you are applying. Even if you are applying via an online application system and a résumé document is not required; you will need to supply most, if not all, of the common elements of a well‐designed résumé in the online fields. It is generally expected to have copies of your résumé when you interview, to hand out.  Finally, by continually updating your résumé, you will not have to hassle with recalling important details from past experiences, as they will be all in one place – your résumé!

Once your résumé is complete, you can upload it to Handshake. Simply follow through with the critique advice. Contact the staff that assisted you to have it approved and posted on Handshake. Proceed to use Handshake to search jobs and apply directly to posted positions. Career Drop-Ins is an opportunity for students to meet one-on-one with a University Career Service staff member for a quick scan 15-minute résumé critique. Choose any time during walk-in hours and bring a hard copy of your résumé or be prepared to access a digital version for print. If you do not have a résumé, we will provide you with assistance to help you get started. Our office also advises on cover letters and curriculum vitae. Come see us soon!

Instructions for Alumni:
Alumni that are within one year of their graduation still have full access to University Career Services. For Alumni who are past the one year period, we recommend that you register in our Alumni Career Services program for access.

Robinson College of Business (RCB):
While RCB students can have their résumés reviewed by
UCS, know that RCB has their own Career Advancement Center and a preferred format for résumés.
